Location

Surroundings

Rabac is a tourist center and a port on the southeast coast of Istria, situated in a beautiful bay close to Labin. The bay features a lovely pebble beach which is surrounded by lush vegetation. The town itself is known for the quality of its tourist services. In this small town, which was a fishing settlement till the 19th century, summer homes are gradually growing and turning it into a fashionable health resort. We also recommend Rabac for your family vacation due to its clear sea, beautiful beaches and a range of tourist services. The most beautiful sandy beaches such as Maslenica, Sv. Andrea Lanterna and Girandella have received a "Blue Flag". There is also a promenade along the sea which is great for children's cycling, jogging or rollerblading, while the restaurants offer excellent cuisine for the whole family. Numerous sports facilities on the beaches make Rabac an attractive seaside resort in this part of the Istrian coast. Sports and recreation fans can enjoy the aqua park, table tennis, mini golf, horse riding, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, hiking, beach volleyball, paintball and many other activities. Various events are held during the summer meant for the older and the younger generations. In the past few years, the town hosted several electronic music festivals such as the “Rabac summer festival” and the “house party-em – back 2 love” which has made the town more attractive to younger folks.
Today, Rabac is a well-known tourist resort. By the middle of the 19th century, it was a small fishermen village with hardly ten houses. Due to the beautiful bay and splendid, tame surroundings, it soon attracted first visitors. In 1876, Richard Francis Burton, an English writer and a passionate traveler, was among the first tourists who stayed in Rabac. Having seen Rabac and other places on the Istrian coast, he wrote a book of the same title 'The Istrian coast', describing, among other things, the beauties and charm of Rabac.
At that time Rabac witnessed the building of the first villas. The most well-known was the villa belonging to the Prohaska family, Czechs by origin, who were distinguished tradesmen from Rijeka. Unfortunately, the villa was destroyed during the Second World War, but one of the most attractive locations in Rabac still bears the name of Prohaska. During your stay in Rabac be sure to visit Rijeka, Opatija, Porec and Rovinj all of which are significant tourist destinations on the Istrian peninsula.
