Surrounded by old forests and situated on a hilly plain, Sveti Petar u Šumi (St. Peter in the Forest), the center of the smallest municipality in Istria, is the most unusual Istrian town. The typical Istrian architecture is less represented here, but the significant influence of the north in its construction is noticeable. The houses scattered around Sveti Petar are mostly still covered with stone, which has turned gray with time passing by.
The town is widely known for the beautiful baroque church of St. Peter and Paul and the Pauline monastery, with stone walls, surrounded by a garden and a large square in front of the church and monastery, where one of the oldest Glagolitic monuments - Supetar's fragment - was found.
Sveti Petar is a peaceful agricultural area with excellent fertile land where people always live in harmony with nature and are thankful for its gifts. It is a land of continuous forests and meadows, as well as spiritual monuments and deep silence.
