Location
Surroundings
Sutivanac is located in central Istria. Nearby is the town of Zminj where you can walk through the medieval city center to see the churches painted with frescoes the remains of the city walls and towers. Centuries-old Istrian stone houses have been turned into agritourism so you can taste Istrian local cuisine. On the way through Žminj and its surroundings you will come across round stone houses located next to dry walls. They served as a tool shed and as a shelter. Such a stone house in Istria is called "kažun" and there are over 5000 of them in the whole of Istria. The oldest and largest folklore festival in Istria is Bartulja, which is held on the last Saturday in August in Žminj. It has a century-old tradition and is an opportunity to gather locals, their relatives, friends and guests. Part of the festival is a fair where, in addition to the livestock store, there are also vegetables from domestic agriculture, homemade cheese, wine, Istrian souvenirs. Various sports competitions, folklore performances and concerts are organized. Nearby you can visit the cave of the Kingdom of Feština near the village of Feština. The locals called it that because of the cave decorations. You can recognize the "wizard's hat", the "tower of Babylon", the large "bat wings" and many others. The cave was discovered by the villagers in 1930 and served as a shelter during the war.
