Makarska is one of best known and most popular destination on the cost of Croatia. It owes its popularity to the unique combination of nature rich environment of Biokovo mountain, delightful pebble beaches and lavish pine forests stretching from inland to the shores. The first known local settlement called Inariona dates back to the 4th century AD. In the official records of the Roman Empire, dating to the year 533 AD there is a mention of the town Mucurum – a newly founded bishopric. One can get a grasp of Makarska’s rich history by visiting the Franciscan monastery, city museum and churches of St. Mark, St. Peter and St. Philip.
